A fire in Cameron endangered one occupied home and
destroyed an abandoned residence Wednesday night.
According to residents on Barton Street in Cameron,
the fire was possibly started by kids. They claim the fire
started in an abandoned school bus near the corner of West
Main Street and Barton Street. The fire spread north
through the brush, crossing underneath a cellular tower
then destroying an abandoned home. According to residents
along Barton Street, the electric lines were melted in
the fire and a transformer blew, leaving the area without
electricity until OG&E could repair the outage.
Hog Eye, Poteau and Shady Point Fire Departments
responded to the fire call and were able to contain the
flames before reaching the occupied home only a few feet
north of the burning house.
No one was injured in the fire.
