The Rev. Gary C. Maxwell

The Rev. Gary C. Maxwell, 62, of Keota died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark.
He was born April 17, 1951, in Keota to Curtis and Lavelle Maxwell.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sheila Maxwell; two sons, Trucky Maxwell of Keota, Dow Maxwell and fiance’ Penni and daughter Alexis of Keota; one sister, Karen Berninger and husband Tom of Duncan; two brothers, Gale Maxwell and wife Pat of Keota; Ray Maxwell and wife Dixie of Keota; grandchildren, Mackenzie Maxwell, Trace Maxwell and Adison Maxwell; mother-in-law, Kathleen McClary of Keota; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law and friends. He is also survived by his loving church family. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Lavelle Maxwell; one sister, Brenda Maxwell; one niece, Brandi (Davis) Greenwood; and father-in-law, Ermal McClary.
Gary started Mission Baptist Church in 1993, which soon became Unity Baptist Church, where he has pastored for 21 years. Gary was an equipment trader, farmer, trucking company operator and county commissioner for 12 years.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at Unity Baptist Church with the Revs. Tommie Parker, Larry Harris and Charles Carry officiating. Burial will be in Keota Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory of Stigler.
Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Mallory Chapel, Keota.
Pallbearers will be Devlin Maxwell, Joe Maxwell, Jake Maxwell, Brandon Davis, Shane Drummonds, Brock Drummonds, Josh McClary, Blake McClary and Robbie Wills. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Greenmeyer, James Harris Sr., Junior Bruner, Rusty Woolbright, J.B. Herriman, Bob Womack, Charley Davis, Earl Bilyeu, Mike Coble, Ron Barraw, Logan Rhinehart, Calvin Carry, Howard Byrd, Sonny Muncy, Eugene Moore, Larry Kates and Lawrence Burris.
