OKLAHOMA CITY — The Eastern Oklahoma Riverdawgs Major American Legion baseball team suffered a road loss to the Oklahoma City Bulls by a score of 7-1 Saturday afternoon at Dolese Park.
Things started off good for the Riverdawgs as an RBI single by Cameron's Dale Pearson scored Spiro's Joe T. Ross to make it 1-0 in favor of the locals in the opening inning. But that would prove to be their only run.
The Bulls tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning, then had a stretch of four straight innings of scoring runs beginning with the fifth inning.
A two-run fifth inning put the Bulls ahead for good at 3-1 after five innings. The Bulls then scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, followed by a two-run eighth inning for a 7-1 lead after eight innings.
The ’Dawgs had only three other hits after Pearson's RBI single. The Riverdawgs got singles by Cameron's Chris Pearson, Spiro's Slater Dunn and Panama's Jimmy Cheely.
Spiro's Jeff Walden (2-2) suffered the loss, pitching the first 5.1 innings and allowing three runs.
The Riverdawgs will play a single nine-inning game against Okmulgee at 6 p.m. Thursday at Poteau High School's Town Creek Park. Then, they will make up their June 10 home doubleheader against Bartlesville at 2 p.m. Sunday, also at Town Creek Park.
