Running Route 66 Tulsa Marathon with friends, and more

On Nov. 20, I woke up to 40-degree weather, and I am ready to run 26.2 miles in the rolling hills of Tulsa. The wind was around 10 to 15 mph, but, compared to last year’s Tulsa Marathon, the weather was perfect.
Poteau High School history teacher Tom Brennan saw me at the starting line and said, "When I left Poteau, it was 65 degrees. (I'm) glad we are in Tulsa running in 40-degree weather today.”
Poteau Coach Tim Hall was standing in the starting gate, also, and he said, "You ready to tear this race up?” I told him I was pumped for the weather and was going to run as hard as I could today. My wife, Kristin, had her arms wrapped around me trying to generate some heat together to say warm.
Tim has been training harder than he has ever trained, and he also has been setting new personal records at every race he has ran. About a month ago, he went to Chili Pepper 10k in Fayetteville, Ark., and set a new PR (personal record) in the 10k. But not only the 10k did he set a PR, he looked down at his 5k split and saw that he just hit a new PR for the 5k during a 10k race. Tim has been dreaming of qualifying for the Boston Marathon by running a age group requirement of a sub 3:30 in the Marathon, and that is what Tim set out to do at the Tulsa Marathon.
