Ladies, gentlemen, and children of all ages. Get ready, The Santa Train is coming to town. The 11th Annual Holiday Express will be riding into Poteau on Thursday December 8th at 4 p.m.
According to a press release from Kansas City Southern the 11th Annual Holiday Express with distribute exactly $108,550 in the form of gift cards to the Salvation Army in order to provide warm clothing and other necessities for the Children in need at several different stops along the Holiday Express route.
Since it's beginning the Holiday Express project has generated over $1 million dollars in donations for this cause. In honor of such large donations made to the Salvation Army and the children they help the Poteau Salvation Army and members of the Oklahoma City Headquarters will be present to greet the Holiday Express upon its arrival in Poteau. The Poteau Chamber of Commerce will also be on site to offer their assistance with the train.
Some of the major sponsors who helped make this year's contributions possible include The Kansas City Southern Charitable Fund, Michael and Marlys Haverty Family Foundation, DST Systems inc., Greenberg Traurig LLP, Husch Blackwell LLP, ITS Technologies & Logistics LLC, Sinclair Occupational & environmental Legal Consulting and Watco Companies.
The Holiday Express project was built on the traditions of the former Gateway Western Santa Train, Which mad e stops in many towns located from east St. Louis Ill. to Blue Springs MO.
