Preliminary plans for a new high school and a $21.575 million bond issue to pay for it were presented at Monday's meeting of the Poteau Board of Education.
Superintendent Don Sjoberg said the plans are "about 80 percent complete," and he plans to have a firm proposal to present for the board's approval in August.
Poteau architect Michael Riley showed drawings of the proposed structure, saying the plans would accommodate future expansion and were designed for low and easy maintenance.
Riley said the proposed building, including room for additions, including a new football field, would require a minimum of 26 acres.
If approved by 60 percent of voters in the district, the proposal would raise property taxes by 17.89 percent, Leonard said.
