Senior defensive end sad about Sallisaw loss, but Pirates will get over it and bounce back

Last Friday night, the Poteau Pirates football team gave it its best shot, but came up short against the Sallisaw Black Diamonds. The Pirate players were disappointed about suffering their first loss of the 2012 season.
“I was really upset because I thought we could win the game,” said Derek Francis, senior defensive lineman. “It was a close game, but they pulled it off in the second half. We threw two interceptions, and that's what turned the game around. I was pretty sad because I really wanted (the win).”
However, while the loss was heartbreaking, the defeat was not the end of the season for the Pirates, who still cannot only make the playoffs, but earn a home playoff game and even the District 4A-4 title if they win out — and get a little help along the way.
“Sallisaw was one of our big games this year, but we've got even bigger games ahead of us,” Francis said. “Stilwell will give us some good competition. We've just got to go play hard to get a win. We have Fort Gibson and (Tulsa) Cascia Hall after that. We've got some pretty tough competition ahead of us. We've just got to get ready for Stilwell, the Fort Gibson and Cascia Hall. I feel pretty confident we're going to bounce back, and I think we're going to do good this year.”
