Senior fullback ecstatic with Sallisaw win ... however, Jones knows Pirates need to be ready for Stilwell Indians

MASON-RY — Poteau senior fullback Mason Jones was ecstatic with Friday night's road win at Sallisaw to begin the District 4A-4 season, but he also realizes the importance of the Pirates to be ready for Friday night's homecoming opponent, the Stilwell Indians. PDN photo by David Seeley

The word “ecstatic” was used by Poteau senior fullback Mason Jones to describe Friday night's 34-9 road win over the archrival Sallisaw Black Diamonds at Perry F. Lattimore Stadium.
“I was just ecstatic,” Jones said. “I was so pumped. It felt great. I know it was big for me and the other seniors. We had never beaten them. That was a big deal. For the team, it was a good start [in District 4A-4 play] to bigger and better things.”
However, while ending the six-game losing skid to Sallisaw was big, so, too, is this Friday night's homecoming game against the Stilwell Indians. Jones knows the Pirates need to focus on Friday night's visitors and not on the Sallisaw victory.
“We're just focusing in on every week that we forget the past week,” he said. “Every game needs to have the feeling as that of Sallisaw. Every game needs to be that important.”
