Senior lineman can't wait for Friday night's homecoming game with Fort Gibson Tigers

CAN'T WAIT UNTIL FRIDAY — Poteau senior lineman Trevor Shankle has waited for almost a year for Friday night's homecoming game against Fort Gibson after losing a 59-56 shootout to the Tigers last year in Fort Gibson. PDN photo by David Seeley

Last year, the Poteau Pirates football team suffered a heartbreaking 59-56 shootout loss on the road against the Fort Gibson Tigers. That taste of defeat did not sit well with current senior lineman Trevor Shankle.
“That hurt quite a bit last year losing that game after being in such a tough game,” said Shankle, whose Pirates will entertain those same Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Costner Stadium for homecoming. “I've been looking forward to this game ever since last year. Right after that game, I made my mind up that I'm going to do everything in my power to be able to knock them off this year.”
Of course, it doesn't hurt that there's still the drive for a District 4A-4 title and/or a home playoff game to add fuel to the fire.
“We're going into this week that it's a must-win situation for us,” Shankle said.
