Senior lineman enjoying season, making playoffs

November 6, 2013

HAPPY CAMPER — Poteau senior lineman Jace Akins could not be a happier camper with the success of the Pirates this season, which not only means a playoff game, but could be a playoff game, or two, at home and a share or possible outright District 4A-4 title. PDN photo by David Seeley

There may be no happier camper among the Poteau Pirate football team than senior lineman Jace Akins, who is recovering from an injury suffered a couple of weeks ago.
For starters, the Pirates have eight wins, going for No. 9 Thursday night in a road game against Tulsa Rogers to end the regular season. Plus, the Pirates are going to be a playoff team, regardless of the outcome of Thursday night's game.
“It's crazy for us to have come this far in a short amount of time,” Akins said. “It's about how much we've changed and progressed. We're working as a really good team. We have great coaching, and we're playing hard.”
