Poteau second-year coach Greg Werner called last week's road game at Fort Gibson “ ... for every kid playing for us that this is biggest football game they will have ever played in.” The Pirates played as such, pulling out a 42-28 victory over the Tigers.
“It was pretty big,” senior tailback/linebacker Cord Lawrence said about the victory. “It was really great that we won. It was a tough game. It has set us up for something big.”
That something big will happen at 7:30 p.m. Thursday when the Pirates entertain the Tulsa Cascia Hall Commandos in a District 4A-4 showdown. If Poteau wins, it will mean the Pirates will be in the driver's seat to win district title.
