Seniors have bright moments for Arkoma in home scrimmage against Gans Grizzlies on Friday

August 28, 2012

ARKOMA — The Arkoma Mustangs entertained the Gans Grizzlies in a preseason scrimmage Friday night at Mustang Field for the final tune-up for the 2012 football season.
In Gans' first series of 10 plays for both teams, Arkoma senior Matthew Shafer recovered a fumble on the Grizzlies eighth play. He also tallied 23 yards rushing in just four attempts for the Mustangs.
"He's a bull in there,” said Mark Weatherton, Arkoma's coach, about Shafer. “He runs hard. He likes contact. That's a good thing for a fullback and middle linebacker, so I am very pleased with his effort. He had some good runs, and good plays defensively.”
Arkoma got on the board on its third series. Senior quarterback Nathan Gragg hit receiver Tyree Nolden for a 70-yard TD reception.
