Sherman Joe Chitwood

Sherman Joe Chitwood, 84, of Summerfield died Friday, July 12, 2013, in Summerfield. He was born Jan. 30, 1929, in Poteau to Omer and Maude (Kelly) Chitwood. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a poultry farmer, rancher and jack of all trades. Joe was also a member of Heavener Masonic Lodge 146 and was a Shriner.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mike Chitwood; and his brother, Kelly Chitwood.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Iva Lea, of the home; two sons, Steve Chitwood and wife Denise of Wister, and Joey Chitwood and wife Diane of Hodgen; three sisters, Eileen Camp and husband George of Calif., Glenda Chitwood of Calif., and Wanda Whitt of Red Oak; four grandchildren, Cody Chitwood and wife Vinda, Joely Branscum and husband Jeremy, Billy Chitwood and wife Nikki, and Stevie Chitwood and wife Jenny; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family, friends and loved ones.
Pallbearers will be Cody Chitwood, Stevie Chitwood, Jeremy Branscum, Gary Mead, Roger Mead and Bobby Mead.
 Services were held Monday, July 15, at Hodgen United Methodist Church with Bro. Sam Dyer officiating. Burial was in Heavener Memorial Cemetery.
