Shirley Jean Sumpter Adams Ford, 58, of Wister died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, in Wister. Shirley was born Jan. 17, 1953, in Fanshawe to Jay and Loeta (Wilson) Sumpter. She was a homemaker. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jackie Sumpter Lucas.
Survivors include her husband, Sam Ford of the home; six daughters, Roxanne Adams of Fort Smith, Ark., Tina Lowry and Stephanie Adams of Wister, Cathy Grace of Durant, Trena Spikerman of Fort Smith, Kristie McCovey of Heavener; son, Joseph Adams of Wister; 16 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Bobby Sumpter of California, Steve Sumpter of Poteau, Art Sumpter of Arkansas, Rocky Sumpter of Poteau; seven sisters, Betty Harris of Sallisaw, Oradell Newby of Lequire, Judy Newby of Arkansas, Claudette Mann and Bonnie Ryburn both of Wister, Jonell Crandell of Poteau and Elanore Rollison of Cameron; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at the Church of God Seventh Day in Wister with Rev. Jim Cook and Lamar Ford officiating. Burial will be in Maxey Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rocky, Art, Steve and Christopher Sumpter, Jean Ryburn and Carlos Mann.
Honorary pallbearer will be Bobby Sumpter.
