WILBURTON — Last year, the Talihina Lady Golden Tigers saw their basketball season end at the Class 2A Area Tournament at the Wilburton High School gym. Unfortunately for them, the same thing happened Thursday afternoon.
A 3-point basket by Silo's Mary Grider with 15 seconds left lifted the Lady Rebels to a 38-37 win over the Lady Golden Tigers in the Class 2A Area Tournament consolation quarterfinals. The loss ended Talihina's season at 18-9.
As for Talihina High School basketball, there can still be some joy as the Golden Tigers (18-11) will meet Preston here at 8 tonight in the Class 2A Area Tournament championship game, with the winner advancing to next week's state tournament in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. Tonight's loser will play in the consolation finals here at 8 p.m. Saturday for the right to make state through the back door as consolation champions.
