Skate park nears completion in Poteau

October 11, 2011

Workers with the company responsible for building the Poteau and the Heavener skate parks test out their work recently as the Poteau site nears completion. Work is set to begin at the Heavener site very soon.

Construction on the
Poteau skatepark is nearing
completion and plans
are in motion for the grand
opening celebration which
will include demonstrations
by professional skateboarders
and giveaways
from the Tony Hawk
Foundation and Bell
Helmets.
According to park officials
construction on the
Heavener skatepark is slated
to begin in about two
weeks as soon as the company
wraps up the finishing
touches on the Poteau
park.
Nashoba Youth
Foundation Director Lisa
Fabian said that donations
are still needed however to
bring the projects to completion.
The Nashoba Youth
Foundation now has Poteau
and Heavener skatepark
t-shirts available for $15.
She said that future fund
raising plans include an
enchilada benefit dinner
and a raffle for a Native
American skateboard
deck.
According to Fabian the
parks have generated a lot
of interest in our area in
the skate world.
Monetary donations can
also be made directly to the
Nashoba Youth Foundation
through the Central
National Bank or by calling
Lisa Fabian or Renee
Farmer at Heavener
Schools or Becky Guinn at
the Central National Bank.
You may also contact
Marion Fry, Betty Ford,
Joe Stacy, or Blake
Newman. All donations are
tax deductible.
