Sparks earthquake felt in LeFlore County, did you feel it?

November 6, 2011

This map shows the epicenter of the most recent quake that could be felt in LeFlore County less than two hours ago.

LeFlore Countians felt a rumbling earlier tonight that was not from happy OU and OSU football fans, but from an earthquake!
The U.S. Geological survey has confirmed that an earthquake occurred at 10:53 CDT near Sparks, Okla. just east of Oklahoma City. Preliminary data suggests that the quake had a magnitude of 5.2 but may have been as strong as 5.8.
There are reports that the quake was felt in Kansas and Arkansas, but right here in LeFlore County houses and windows rattled. One person has reported to PDN that the staff at Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center in Poteau felt the hospital shake for approximately 5 seconds.
No damage has been reported as yet in our area but aftershocks could still be possible.
This is the second earthquake in the state in as many days with the first one being reported on Nov. 5 near Prauge.
