Speeders beware; crackdown in residential area

January 31, 2013

Poteau police are cracking down on speeders in a residential neighborhood affected by bypass traffic.

With the completion of the Cavanal Scenic Expressway, traffic on Burkle Street in Poteau has become an issue for area law enforcement.
Burkle Street at one time was a dead end residential street with little or no traffic. It has since been extended to connect with the CSE causing an increase in traffic and the need to force residential speed limits.
A electric speed monitoring device has been placed on Burkle to remind commuters to keep their speed below 25.
Poteau Chief of Police Stephen Fruen said officers are patrolling the street more frequently to enforce the speed limit and help reduce speeders.
