SPIRO â€” One Spiro High School senior baseball player finally had his dream come true to make state. Now, Tyler Didway just had another one come true.
Didway signed with Carl Albert State College Monday morning inside Spiro High School Principal Kyle House's office.
â€śIt's taken a lot of weight off my shoulders,â€ť Didway said. â€śNow, that I'm going to get to play somewhere, I can now relax. I'm just ready to go.â€ť
Carl Albert was really the only place the Spiro graduate was looking to go.
â€śI really like (Carl Albert State College Assistant) Coach (Ryan) Bowen, and the way he does things,â€ť Didway said. â€śIt's also close to home. It's a good baseball school. I'm looking forward to it.â€ť
â€śFor four years, he started here,â€ť Spiro Coach Paul Croft said. â€śHe's been in the outfield for us, and had pitched for us. He's won seven or eight games each year. This is a special time for him and his family. He had a great (Class 3A) state tournament, going 2-for-3. He deserves a chance to get to go play (college baseball).â€ť
â€śThese guys knocked and knocked on the door (to make state), and they finally got there,â€ť Carl Albert Coach Mark Pollard said. â€śWhat they did at Eufaula (in this season's Class 3A Regional Tournament) was special. He does a great job against good competition. They play good teams, and that's a big difference if you're going to survive in the playoffs â€” you need to be tested a little bit. He's been in the fire, and he hasn't been afraid of it.â€ť
