Spiro boys fall in title game of Tiger Shootout to Vian; Pocola, Cameron also lose trophy games on Saturday

April 15, 2013

SALLISAW — Three LeFlore County baseball teams began play Thursday with chances to take home plaques at the 2013 Tiger Shootout at Sallisaw-Central High School. However, in the end, only one team got that honor.
The Spiro Bulldogs came in second in the tournament, losing the title game 12-8 in eight innings to the Vian Wolverines on Saturday. The Bulldogs reached the title game with an 8-1 win over the Keys (Park Hill) Cougars on Friday, followed by an 8-7 victory over Pocola in the semifinals on Friday.
The Indians and the Cameron Yellowjackets both lost their trophy games on Saturday. Pocola, which won Thursday’s opener 6-5 over Westville, lost 3-2 to the host Tigers in the third-place game Saturday afternoon.
The Yellowjackets lost the consolation finals 10-0 to Westville on Saturday. Cameron opened with an 8-2 loss to Vian in the opener on Thursday, but beat Preston 5-3 in Friday’s consolation semifinals.
Editor’s note: Spiro’s home game Monday against Okmulgee was canceled, and will likely not be rescheduled.
