Spiro boys knocking on 3A state's door; Bulldogs playing in Class 3A Regional Tournament championship against Eufaula Ironheads

May 5, 2012

EUFAULA — The Spiro Bulldogs are in the same place they were at this time one year ago — the Class 3A Regional Tournament title game.
However, unlike last year, the ’Dogs are in the driver's seat.
The Bulldogs went 2-0 on opening-day games on Thursday, doubling the host Eufaula Ironheads 12-6 after beating the Morris Eagles 9-5.
The Eagles staved off elimination Thursday night by knocking off the Valliant Bulldogs.
The Eagles were then the next team to be eliminated, but not without some drama. First of all, the loser's-bracket final between Morris and Eufaula started at noon Friday, but had a lightning delay. Then, to top it off, the game went nine innings before the Ironheads got past the Eagles 14-7.
The ’Dogs played the Ironheads for the regional title, and a trip to next week's Class 3A State Tournament.
If Eufaula wins, there will be a winner-take-all championship game at 1 p.m. this afternoon.
