Spiro boys lose regional final to Hugo, but still make area; Lady Bulldogs see season end with loss to Davis

February 26, 2013

ANTLERS — The good news is the Spiro Bulldogs basketball team is still alive for a chance at a state title. The bad news is they cannot lose another playoff game if the ’Dogs hope to make state.
The Bulldogs lost 57-54 in overtime to the Hugo Buffaloes in Saturday night’s Class 3A Regional Tournament title game.
However, the ’Dogs (18-8) still advanced to this week’s Class 3A Area Tournament at Byng High School’s Bill Kohler Fieldhouse. Spiro will play Lexington in a battle of Bulldogs at 8 p.m. Thursday, with the winner meeting the Sulphur-Antlers winner at 3 p.m. Friday. Friday’s winner will meet the loser of Friday night’s area championship game between Hugo and Okemah for the consolation championship — and a trip to state — at 8 p.m. Saturday.
The season came to an end for the Spiro Lady Bulldogs as the Davis Lady Wolves used a strong fourth quarter to down Spiro 40-33 on Friday night in the consolation semifinals. The Lady Bulldogs end the season at 13-13.
