Chris Bunch, Spiro's football coach, said back in the preseason in August that he hoped that his Bulldogs and the Stigler Panthers, who are the favorite to win District 3A-8, would meet later in the season — instead of the district opener as they will at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Stigler.
The Panthers (2-1) have won two straight games — beating Hartshorne 39-6 after winning 33-2 over Okmulgee the week before. Stigler opened the season with a 26-21 loss to Hilldale.
“Their quarterback is a hard runner, and their tailback is just as hard a runner,” Bunch said. “It's a 1-2 punch. If you go to sleep, they'll throw the long pass. I just wish we could have waited longer into the season before we played them.”
