Spiro football team seeks first District 3A-8 win tonight at home, faces Idabel

September 28, 2012

The District 3A-8 season got off on the wrong foot for the Spiro Bulldogs football team last week, but the ’Dogs just happened to play a team that is thought to be the favorite to win the district title — the Stigler Panthers. The Panthers proved that point to the Bulldogs in a 48-16 win.
“They're a pretty good team,” said Chris Bunch, Spiro's coach. “They scored first and came back and scored again on us. They scored on a couple straight possessions in the second quarter. We came back and then kicked a field goal, but the second quarter was big for them. I think Stigler will be the first-place team in the district.”
However, Bunch believes that the rest of the District 3A-8 teams are pretty evenly matched, thus making quite a race for the runner-up spot.
“After Stigler, I think second place is up for grabs,” Bunch said. “We have to go hook up and play, and do a better job this week.”
The Bulldogs (1-3, 0-1 in district play) will begin the quest for second place with a home game against the Idabel Warriors (1-3, 0-1) at 7:30 p.m. tonight at McClain Stadium.
