Spiro goes for nine straight wins, perfect district record Friday night against Checotah
The only blemish on the Spiro Bulldogs' football season this year was a 32-14 season-opening loss to the Vian Wolverines. The ’Dogs hope it stays that way tonight. The Bulldogs (8-1, 6-0 in District 3A-8) will travel to meet the Checotah Wildcats (8-1, 5-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Ogle Field. If Spiro wins, the ’Dogs will be the district champion outright and get two home playoff games. A loss may deny them a home playoff game altogether.“We're playing for a district championship,” Spiro coach Chris Bunch said. “If we win, we win the district title and will have a home playoff game. If we lose, we'll likely be oni the road. So, this game makes a big difference. Hopefully, the kids know what's at stake and will be ready to play. We're guaranteed two home games if we win the district, as long as keep winning. Plus, you don't want to enter the playoffs coming off a loss. That doesn't set well. You want to win that last ball game before going to the playoffs.”• • •To Get There — Take Oklahoma State Highway 9 west to the Sallisaw Y. Take U.S. 59 north to Sallisaw.
