Spiro Reds stave off elimination in Coach-Pitch Regional Tourney; locals needed two wins Friday night, two today to make state

July 7, 2012

PRESTON — There's another day of baseball for the Spiro Reds OK Kids coach-pitch baseball team. The Reds staved off elimination Thursday night with a 15-1 rout of the Prague Rebels to reach Friday night's loser's-bracket semifinal against Sallisaw.
The Reds needed to win twice on Friday, then twice on Saturday in the title games — 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. — to win the regional title and make state.
The Tishomingo BRR and the Tecumseh Blackhawks — who beat the Reds 12-5 Tuesday night — played Friday night for the right to get to the championship game undefeated.
In the Reds' victory, they jumped out to a 3-0 lead after an inning, then scored six runs in the third inning to put the game into run-rule status.
