Spiro senior boys glad to end career at state; Bulldogs meet Verdigris in Class 3A state quarterfinals at MWC Carl Albert High School

SPIRO — It's been eight years since the Spiro Bulldogs basketball team has made state. The Bulldogs ended the drought Friday night when they won the Class 3A Area Tournament title game over Nowata by a score of 52-44.When Friday's game ended with the ’Dogs earning a trip to state, it was a good feeling for all.The Bulldogs won their third straight LeFlore County Tournament in January. While that's a nice feat, winning state may be even better.The Bulldogs will face Verdigris at 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Class 3A state quarterfinals at Midwest City Carl Albert High School's Titan Fieldhouse. A win will not only put them into Friday's semifinals, but it will put them with the opportunity to play at Oklahoma City's State Fair Arena, a.k.a., “The Big House.”
