Spiro, Talihina girls post wins to open Stigler Tournament

August 9, 2012

STIGLER — The Spiro Lady Bulldogs and the Talihina Lady Golden Tigers opened their 2012 fast-pitch softball season by posting victories in the Stigler Tournament — which was originally the Keota Tournament, but the Lady Lions gave it to the Lady Panthers.
The Lady Bulldogs blanked the Arkoma Lady Mustangs 12-0, while the Lady Golden Tigers got past the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets 6-2.
The Pocola Lady Indians were edged 9-8 by the Keota Lady Lions.
Spiro will meet Keota at 5:10 p.m. Friday in one championship semifinal, followed by Talihina against the winner of Tuesday's McCurtain-Stigler game at 6:20 p.m. The two winners will play in the winner's-bracket final at 9 a.m. Saturday for the right to reach the 1 p.m. championship game.
One LeFlore County team will be eliminated tonight as Arkoma and Pocola will play an elimination game at 6:20 p.m., followed by Cameron's loser's-bracket opening-round game against the McCurtain-Stigler loser at 7:40 p.m. tonight.
