SPIRO — Both Spiro High School basketball teams advanced to the semifinals of the 80th LeFlore County Tournament Tuesday night at the Spiro Gym. But needless to say, just barely.
The Bulldogs scored late to down the Howe Lions 50-48 in the final game of the night in quarterfinal action, which came after the Lady Bulldogs also scored in the waning seconds to down the Poteau Lady Pirates 45-44.
Two other county teams also made it to the semifinals. The Wister Wildcats beat the Cameron Yellowjackets 53-38, while the Bokoshe Lady Tigers defeated defending LCT champion Heavener 43-39.
Here tonight will be the championship semifinals on the girls' side, with Howe facing Bokoshe at 7 p.m., followed by Spiro meeting Talihina at 8:30 p.m.
Friday at the Spiro Gym will be the championship semifinals for the boys. Spiro will play Wister at 7 p.m., followed by Heavener meeting Poteau at 8:30 p.m., with the winners meeting for the championship at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Spiro Gym.
Friday night's losers will square off for third place at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Spiro Gym.
