SPIRO — The Poteau Lady Pirates held a 32-30 lead going into the final quarter, but Spiro's Carleigha Thompson took over the game. Thompson only scored six points in the final quarter, but she had at least five pinpoint assists in the final half of the quarter to help the Lady Bulldogs win the game by the score of 49-41 Friday night at the Spiro Multipurpose Gym.
In the boys contest, after playing to a dead heat in the first quarter as both teams scored 13 points, the Class 3A's third-ranked Spiro Bulldogs outscored the Pirates 53-39 over the final three quarters. Both teams went on numerous runs, but Spiro's runs were longer than the Pirates' as the ’Dogs won 66-52.
