EUFAULA — The Spiro High School basketball teams began their postseason parade in fine fashion Friday night.
The Lady Bulldogs and ’Dogs swept the Class 3A District Tournament by posting wins over host Eufaula.
The Spiro girls beat the Lady Ironheads 47-43, then the Spiro boys handled the Ironheads 71-53.
Both Spiro teams are one win away from not only playing for a regional title, but making it to next week's Class 3A Area Tournament at Fort Gibson.
The Lady Bulldogs, who went to last year's Class 3A State Tournament, and the ’Dogs will play in this week's Class 3A Regional Tournament, which will begin for them at home as both teams will play Keys (Park Hill) at 6:30 (girls) and 8 p.m. (boys) on Thursday at the Spiro Gym.
The winners will play in the regional title games at 6:30 and 8 p.m., respectively, on Saturday at Carl Albert State College's Mick Thompson Fieldhouse — and will automatically qualify for next week's Class 3A Area Tournament at Fort Gibson.
Thursday night's losers will play at 1:30 and 3 p.m., respectively, Friday afternoon at CASC and must win Saturday afternoon's consolation championship games at 1:30 and 3 p.m., respectively, to advance to the area tournament.
