Lake Wister and Talimena state parks have joined together to promote a heart healthy hiking program this year. A hike will take place each month, alternating between the two state parks.
The next hike will take place at Lake Wister State Park's Wards Landing Campground on March 9.
All hikes will begin at 1 p.m. Bottled water will be provided at each month's hike.

Anyone interested in coaching a Poteau City League baseball/softball team for the 2013 season should contact Billy Bond at (918) 647-1939 or via e-mail at parcball@windstream.net.
The first coaches meeting will be at 1 p.m. March 9 at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The season will begin April 29.

Any team interested in playing in the 2013 Green Country League at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex should have a representative attend the first coaches meeting at 2 p.m. March 9 at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.

Any team that is interested in playing in the age 14-and-younger fast-pitch softball spring league should contact Billy Bond at (918) 647-1939.
The season will begin March 25, and all games will be played on Monday nights. Each team will play a doubleheader. The league has a limit of 12 teams.
The entry fee for the upcoming season is $210. Each team will play an eight-game schedule.

Sunday Couple Scrambles at Wolf Ridge Golf Course will take place at 2 p.m. Sundays.
The entry fee is $15 per person for the nine-hole weekly event.

Choctaw Country Club is having a membership drive until April 1. Anyone signing up to become a member from now until March 30 will be able to use the country club for free, and play a round of golf for free.
Beginning on April 1, those individuals will then be required to pay their dues covering a calendar year. There is a $25 application fee.

The opening meeting for the 2013 OK Kids baseball and softball seasons will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Bob Lee Kidd Civic Center on the campus of Poteau High School, in the cafeteria section.
The meeting should last a between 60 and 90 minutes and will go over rules, rosters, divisions and scheduling for the upcoming season.
Coaches and park directors are asked to attend.

OK Kids Pee-Wee baseball tryouts will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. the following Saturday at Town Creek Park.
All players who are going to try out must attend Poteau Public Schools. No players outside the school district will be allowed to try out.
Cleats and a glove will be needed for each player who will be attending the tryout.
Those wishing to try out cannot have turned age 11 by Jan. 1.

There will be a benefit Texas Hold ’Em Poker Tournament beginning at 6 p.m. next Saturday at the Spiro Eagles Lodge. Registration will take place first, followed by tournament action getting under way at 6:30 p.m. There is a $40 buy in.
All proceeds will benefit the Poteau Baseball Dugout Club.

OK Kids Coach-Pitch baseball tryout s will take place at 10 a.m. next Saturday at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex and 2 p.m. Feb. 24 at Poteau High School's Town Creek Park.
All players who are going to tryout must attend Poteau Schools. No players outside the school district will be allowed to try out.
Those who are planning on trying out will need to bring cleats and a glove. The tryouts are open for youth ages 7 to 8, and they cannot have turned age 9 before Jan. 1.
