State releases ACT scores

The Oklahoma State Department of Education has released the 2011 ACT scores for 13 LeFlore County high schools.
In LeFlore County, 346 graduating seniors took the ACT, a standardized test that measures high school achievement used in college admissions.
The test consists of four sections, English, mathematics, reading comprehension, and science, which are graded from one to 36 and then averaged to give each student a composite score.
County-wide, an average of half of all graduating seniors took the exam. The composite score for LeFlore County is 18.6. The composite score for Oklahoma is 20.7, and the composite score for the nation is 21.1.
Scoring highest overall in the county was Wister High School with a composite score of 20.8. Fifteen of Wister’s 43 seniors took the test.
The second highest composite score came from Poteau High School with a composite score of 20.1. Ninety-eight of Poteau’s 139 seniors took the ACT.
Behind Wister and Poteau was Pocola High School who scored a 19.3 with 26 of 52 seniors taking the exam.
Wister High School also posted the highest score in each of the four sections of the test and out-performed the state and national averages in the English and reading sections.
Scores by category for Wister High School were: English – 21.1, Mathematics – 19.7, Reading Comprehension – 21.7, Science – 20.8, for a composite of 20.8.
Scores by category for Arkoma High School, where 5 out of 17 seniors took the test, were: English – 17.0, Mathematics – 18.4, Reading Comprehension – 18.2, Science – 19.4, for a composite of 18.6.
Scores by category for Bokoshe High School, where 10 out of 20 seniors took the test, were: English – 17.7, Mathematics – 17.2, Reading Comprehension – 18.8, Science – 19.0, for a composite of 18.4.
Scores by category for Cameron High School, where 8 seniors took the test, were: English – 15.1, Mathematics – 16.9, Reading Comprehension – 19.0, Science – 17.8, for a composite of 17.3.
Scores by category for Heavener High School, where 48 seniors took the test, were: English – 18.1, Mathematics – 18.0, Reading Comprehension – 20.2, Science – 18.3, for a composite of 18.8.
Scores by category for Howe High School, where 23 seniors took the test, were: English – 17.7, Mathematics – 17.4, Reading Comprehension – 19.7, Science – 18.7, for a composite of 18.4.
Scores by category for Leflore High School, where 6 out of 15 seniors took the test, were: English – 16.7, Mathematics – 18.5, Reading Comprehension – 19.0, Science – 19.3, for a composite of 18.7.
Scores by category for Panama High School, where 28 out of 41 seniors took the test, were: English – 18.0, Mathematics – 17.5, Reading Comprehension – 19.0, Science – 18.1, for a composite of 18.3.
Scores by category for Pocola High School, where 26 out of 52 seniors took the test, were: English – 19.7, Mathematics – 17.6, Reading Comprehension – 20.4, Science – 19.2, for a composite of 19.3.
Scores by category for Poteau High School, where 98 out of 139 seniors took the test, were: English – 20.3, Mathematics – 18.6, Reading Comprehension – 21.1, Science – 19.8, for a composite of 20.1.
Scores by category for Spiro High School, where 53 seniors took the test, were: English – 18.4, Mathematics – 18.0, Reading Comprehension – 19.1, Science – 19.3, for a composite of 18.8.
Scores by category for Talihina High School, where 21 out of 44 seniors took the test, were: English – 17.3, Mathematics – 16.7, Reading Comprehension – 17.6, Science – 17.8, for a composite of 17.5.
Scores by category for Whitesboro High School, where 5 seniors took the test, were: English – 17.0, Mathematics – 17.4, Reading Comprehension – 16.6, Science – 16.6, for a composite of 16.8.
Composite scores for LeFlore County as a whole by category were: English – 18, Mathematics – 17.8, Reading Comprehension – 19.3, Science – 18.8, for a composite of 18.6.
Composite scores for the 29,342 graduating seniors state-wide were: English – 20.4, Mathematics – 20.1, Reading Comprehension – 21.3, Science – 20.6, for a composite score of 20.7.
Composite scores for the nation were: English – 20.5, Mathematics – 21.1, Reading Comprehension – 21.3, Science – 20.9, for a composite score of 21.1.
