State tournaments await Panama girls, Wister boys; Poteau Lady Pirates heading to Class 4A Regional Tournament this week at Hilldale

October 2, 2012

LeFlore County is down to three teams on the diamond for the fall of 2012, with two of those at state tournaments this week.
The Panama Lady Razorbacks fast-pitch softball team will have a chance to defend its Class 2A state title, while the Wister Wildcats baseball team made state for the sixth straight season — dating back to the spring of 2010 — as they made it to the Class A Fall State Tournament for the third straight season.
The Poteau Lady Pirates will be at the Class 4A Regional Tournament this week with the hopes of winning a regional title — and, more importantly, make fast-pitch state.
However, due to rain, not all of last weekend's playoffs got finished. They were scheduled to be finished Monday, so it will be today before the official brackets for our two local state teams will be released by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association.
However, Poteau found out it will be sent to Hilldale in Muskogee for its Class 4A Regional Tournament along with Roland and Sequoyah-Claremore.
