Storms cause damage and power outage

August 9, 2012

A front that moved through the area Wednesday afternoon left trees blown down and businesses damaged from high winds.

As strong storms moved across the area Wednesday afternoon more than 1,400 OG&E customers found themselves without electricity.
Poteau saw the brunt of damages along the southern side of town with trees blown down along Morris and Church Streets and a metal building blown onto its top at Dunn Rite Custom Buildings on South Broadway.
According to Michael Davidson, a downburst is possibly to blame for the damages. Wind gusts up to 75 mph were recorded during the storm.
