Students evacuate for fire at KTC

January 10, 2014

Poteau firefighters extinguish a fire in an HVAC unit outside KTC early Friday.

A fire prompted Kiamichi Technology Center officials to evacuate the premises briefly Friday morning.
Poteau Fire Department was called for assistance about 8 a.m.
An HVAC unit outside the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning classroom caught fire and was blowing smoke inside the building.
HVAC instructor, Barney Green quickly cut the power to the unit.
Firefighters responded quickly and helped extinguish the fire.
Classes were back in progress by 8:30 a.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“We really appreciate the quick response and professionalism from the Poteau Fire Department as well as the Poteau Police Department,” Campus Director Doug Hall said.
