Summer nearing an end for me; getting ready for 2012-13 athletic season's start; Yours truly will use Panama Preseason Softball Festival to help prepare 2012 Fall Diamond Tab

July 28, 2012

First off, I hope that all of you have had a happy and safe summer break. I've enjoyed the more relaxed stretch of the year when I don't have to worry about high school and Carl Albert State College athletics. There was just enough Legion baseball, camps and golf tournaments to keep me out of trouble.
However, I now have to get back to reality, which is the 2012-13 athletic season is just around the corner. In fact, I'm actually going to start getting ready for it next week.
Let me begin by saying the 2012 Fall Diamond Tab will be in the edition two weeks from today, Aug. 11, and it will have team photos, season-preview stories and schedules of the 13 LeFlore County high school fast-pitch softball teams and five fall baseball teams.
To get a head start on this project, yours truly is going to use next week's Panama Preseason Softball Festival to snatch softball team photos and hand out questionnaires to those coaches — since Panama, Cameron, Heavener, Howe, Pocola, Poteau, Spiro, Talihina, Whitesboro and Wister will all be participating. Coaches, if you will fill them out and bring them back — ALONG WITH YOUR SCHEDULES — with you the next day, I'll pick them up and have them ready for me to write those teams' season preview stories. Coaches, I will also send you a reminder text message on Wednesday night (hopefully, I won't interfere with prayer meeting services, as I will try to wait until 8 p.m.-ish to send my text to you all as a subtle reminder).
Now, for the three softball teams not participating in the Panama Preseason Festival — Arkoma, Bokoshe and Leflore — and the five high school fall baseball teams (Cameron, Howe, Leflore, Whitesboro and Wister), I will mail your respective coaches' questionnaires on Monday so they will be at your school when you report next week (I'm assuming that teachers and administrators will report on Aug. 1 as is normally the case). There is a strong chance I will need help from coaches and/or parents and/or yearbook teachers to get these squads' team photos taken and emailed to me at sports@poteaudailynews.com. I will also need schedules emailed to me or faxed to me at (918) 647-8198.
While I believe summer blew by and I could use a little more less stressful times, I do have to admit that I'm looking forward to the fun of covering games this upcoming 2012-13 athletic season.
Again, any questions, call (918) 647-3188, Ext. 30 or (580) 341-8419.
By the way, here is the complete schedule of next week's Panama Preseason Softball Festival:
