A Super Bowl party turned violent Sunday night after a man was shot three times at his home.
According to LeFlore County Undersheriff, Kendall Morgan, Robert G. Hamner, 35, was shot three times in the abdomen after a domestic altercation erupted. Hamner and four other people were inside the home on Pleasant Valley Road in Poteau when the shooting occurred.
Morgan said the sheriff's office received a call about the shooting at 9:47 p.m. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Hamner wounded, a Ruger P94 .40-caliber handgun and shell casings lying nearby.
“The magazine was not found with the gun,” Morgan said. “Hamner's girlfriend told us she threw the magazine in the pasture after the shooting occurred.”
LeFlore County Emergency Medical Services treated Hamner while Life Flight of Tulsa landed near the home to take the wounded man to a Tulsa hospital.
Morgan said the shooting occurred after a physical altercation ensued between Hamner and his girlfriend, 40-year-old Jamie Lovell. A video recording of the altercation before the shooting reportedly was filmed by Lovell, including the sound of gunshots.
“Hamner was upset when the 49ers lost the Super Bowl ... there was alcohol involved ... we were told he [Hamner] was dragging his girlfriend [Lovell] down the hallway by her hair,” Morgan said. “That is when her [Lovell] son, who is 21, reportedly shot him [Hamner].”
Although the Sheriff's Office is not releasing the name of the person responsible for shooting Hamner, Caleb White, 21, has been identified as the son involved in the shooting by sources near the investigation. White reportedly fired four shots, striking Hamner three times.
Morgan said both White and Lovell were interviewed about the shooting, but no arrests have been made.
“We will complete the investigation and turn the information over to the LeFlore County District Attorney's Office,” Morgan said. “They will make the determination if anyone will be charged in the shooting or if it was an act of self-defense.”
According to Morgan, Hamner was listed in stable condition at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa after undergoing surgery at 3:30 a.m. Monday morning.
