A Christmas Miracle

Last year was the most memorable Christmas. We did not have any money for Christmas presents and were behind on bills. I was a substitute teacher at a local headstart as well as a college student with two children. My husband was out of work with a broken leg. Funds were very tight. One of the ladies from the Headstart had put my family on a help list for the holiday, without my knowledge. To our surprise, one night I saw what looked like a cops flashing lights in my front yard along with four more cars. Santa (the Chief of Police) and his helpers came up to my house carrying a great big sack of presents and a food basket. The kids were thrilled and I was overwhelmed with joy. I gave Santa a big hug and thanked him and the others for their generosity as my eyes filled with tears. My children didn't understand why I was so emotional, but I was overjoyed with a relief of hopelessness and the miracle of what Christmas brings to our Spirit.

My Christmas Memories

One of my favorite Christmas memories was from when my Dad was still alive. Every Christmas Eve, we would get to open our presents AFTER dinner. However, we couldn't touch our presents until EVERYONE was finished eating. Everyone would finish dinner in a hurry except my dad.... He would eat slow and act like we would eat too fast. When he was done with his plate, he would get seconds, and sometimes more! This would drive my brother, sister, and I nuts because he did this on purpose. Even when we got older, moved out, and came back for visits during Christmas, he would continue doing this. I thought it was annoying, but as I got older, married, and two girls of my own, I do it now to my girls. It drives them nuts! But I know why my Dad did it to us: Because he would get a kick out of watching us.... waiting....
