LeFlore County will have at least one basketball All-Stater this season. Talihina's Landry James was named to the Small East team for the 2012 Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association All-State Games, which will be June 2 at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
“I couldn't be happier for her,” Talihina Girls Coach Jeff Oliver said. “I thought one of the three (James, Krissy Houston and Chelsea Baggs) had a shot. At the tryouts, Landry just shined. I'm thrilled to death for her.”
James averaged 6.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.8 steals a game for the Lady Golden Tigers, who were 22-6 and got to the Class 2A Area Tournament consolation semifinals, where they lost to the Howe Lady Lions. Talihina's girls ended up finishing 14th in the Class 2A Poll.
James, Houston and Baggs were All-Southeast Region Team members of the OGBCA. Houston averaged 10 points, 2.6 rebounds, an assist and 1.1 steals a game, while Baggs, who moved back to LeFlore County after being at Caddo, had a team-high 11.8-point scoring average, 4.7-rebound average, 1.4-assist average and 1.25-steal average a game this past season.
Five Lady Golden Tigers were honored by the Black Diamond Conference. Houston, Baggs and Tara Hawkins made the first-team all-conference, while James and Cortney Williams made the second team.
Hawkins averaged 7.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 2.1 steals a game, while Williams had a 4.8-scoring average, 3.3-rebound average, 1.2-assist average and 1.1-steal average a contest last season.
James and Hawkins, along with Golden Tiger hoopsters Hayden Dickson and Clark Austin, were invited to this week's Fort Smith (Ark.) All-Area Basketball Team Banquet, where any of them could have been named The Male or Female Player of the Year.
