WILBURTON — It's hard not to think about deja vu right now if you happen to be the Talihina Golden Tigers basketball team.
Two years ago, the Golden Tigers beat the Preston Pirates to win the Class 2A Area Tournament at the McAlester Expo Center en route to making state for the fourth straight year and eventually capturing the gold ball — by beating Preston again.
One of the players on that team had the last name of Lockhart — with the first name of Taggart, who is now playing at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.
Friday night at the Wilburton High School gym, it sure had the feeling of two years ago.
The Golden Tigers returned to the state tournament by beating the Preston Pirates 62-50 to win the Class 2A Area Tournament. And, just like the state title team of two years ago, there was a Lockhart involved — Taggart's younger brother, Alan.
The Golden Tigers (19-11) will meet the Latta Panthers at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oklahoma City University in the Class 2A State Tournament quarterfinals.
