Talihina Golden Tigers entertain Cashion Wildcats in Class A state football quarterfinals Friday night

November 21, 2012

Three years ago when the Talihina Golden Tigers football team made the state quarterfinals, they had the dubious honor of traveling to Hennessey, located 20 miles south of Enid. The combination of the four-hour road trip and playing a good Hennessey Eagles team led to a season-ending loss for the Golden Tigers.
In 2012, the Golden Tigers are back in the state quarterfinals, but this time they're home. The Golden Tigers (11-1) will entertain the fifth-ranked Cashion Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Doc Robinson Stadium in the Class A state quarterfinals.
“Football is really important to Talihina,” said Kelly Gravitt, Talihina's coach. “We're excited to get to play a home quarterfinal game at 'The Pit.' The more the merrier. We play all the surrounding schools in the different sports. There's a lot of neighboring teams who ought to be there. They're all welcome to come support the Golden Tigers.”
Gravitt is just glad the ’Cats are the ones doing the traveling.
“It's a good four-hour trip,” he said. “I know when we went to the state quarterfinals three years ago, we had to go to Hennessey. Not to make excuses, but the trip does wear you down. We're only going to be three minutes from the field. It's a huge difference."
