Talihina has football home opener Friday night against Antlers Bearcats

September 5, 2012

Things could not have started much better than the 2012 season did for the Talihina Golden Tigers Friday night in Wilburton. The Golden Tigers dominated the Diggers for a 27-0 road win.
“It was an impressive outing on offense for us, especially in the first half,” said Kelly Gravitt, Talihina's coach. “We were clicking on all cylinders. Clark (Austin) threw the ball well. (Alan) Lockhart and (Trevor) Crone caught the ball well. Our offensive line blocked well. We scored 20 points in the first half. In the second half, we had three touchdowns called back, but we did come out and score three touchdowns. I was especially pleased with our first half. Defensively, we only gave up three first downs, and didn't let them in. Anytime you can do that, and play as well as did offensively, it's all good stuff.”
The Golden Tigers (1-0) will get to play their home opener at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Doc Robinson Stadium against the Antlers Bearcats. Gravitt said there's nothing like playing at “The Pit.”
“These kids love playing here at 'The Pit,' he said. “Plus, the last game they played here, we lost (a 27-21 loss to Hartshorne in Week 9 of the 2011 season). I know they want to get that taste out of their mouths, and get after the Bearcats.”
