Talihina holds shoe drive

February 5, 2014

You can help the environment, aid people in developing countries and boost a local tourism effort — just by kicking off your shoes.
The Talihina Chamber of Commerce hopes to collect 300 bags of new and gently used shoe drive by March 1.
"One of the benefits of doing a shoe drive is that it keeps thousands of shoes out of landfills. Instead of slowly decomposing in a landfill, the shoes the chamber collects will go to help people in developing countries," siad Chamber Manager Vera Nelson.
"When we reach our goal we will be paid $3,000 to go towards the completion of the Talimena Scenic Drive Visitors Center. Pine Cellular has donated space in their business to store the shoes until we have completed the drive and they are picked up. Please clean out your closets, look under your bed and bring us those shoes you never wear. Also ask friends, and family to do the same.," she said.
Shoes may be dropped off at the Talihina Chamber of Commerce Office, Talihina Public Library, Treats and Treasures, The Petal, Kibois Community Action and Pine Cellular.
Monetary donations also are welcome with different levels of recognition available.
