Talihina looks to keep its football record perfect in road game against Sallisaw JV tonight

September 13, 2012

After a disappointing end to the 2011 football season, the beginning to the 2012 season has been anything but for the Talihina Golden Tigers.
The Golden Tigers (2-0) have pitched two shutouts, 27-0 over Wilburton in the season opener and 41-0 over Antlers in last week's home opener at Doc Robinson Stadium.
“After these two games, we've only given up five first downs and the kids are showing good technique on defense,” said Kelly Gravitt, Talihina's coach. “We're executing on offense.”
Still, if the Golden Tigers are to stay perfect on the season, they will have to improve even more on offense and defense when they meet the Sallisaw Black Diamonds junior varsity at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Sallisaw's Perry F. Lattimore Stadium.
“There are some busts on both sides of the ball,” Gravitt said. “We just have to come out and get better on both sides of the ball. We have to come out and clean up our special teams play. I told the kids that's an area where teams can hurt us. We have to cut down our mental mistakes. If we can cut down on our flags and get better each week, we'll be in good shape when we start district play.”
To Get There — Take Oklahoma State Highway 82 north to Stigler. Take Oklahoma State Highway 9 east to U.S. Highway 59. Take U.S. 59 north to Sallisaw.
