KEOTA â€” Talihina pitcher Malacha Austin threw a no-hitter, and aided her own cause by hitting one of her team's three home runs, as the Lady Golden Tigers run ruled the Howe Lady Lions 12-0 in a four-inning contest in the opening round of the Keota Invitational Tuesday night.
The Arkoma Lady Mustangs made a successful return to high school softball as they defeated the McCurtain Lady Bulldogs 3-2 to open their season with a victory.
The Spiro Lady Bulldogs got a shutout from pitcher Kaylee Cox as they blanked the Pocola Lady Indians 7-0 in a game called after four innings due to the time limit.
The Cameron Lady Yellowjackets lost by forfeit to the Stigler Lady Panthers due to lack of players. The Lady â€™Jackets (0-2) forfeited their way out of the tournament for that reason.
Arkoma will play tournament-host Keota at 4 p.m. this afternoon with the winner meeting Spiro at 5:20 p.m. Friday. That winner will advance to Saturday morning's 10 a.m. winner's-bracket final.
Today's loser's-bracket games will have Pocola meeting the Arkoma-Keota loser at 6:40 p.m., followed by Howe meeting McCurtain, which beat Cameron by forfeit, at 8 p.m. tonight. The winners will advance to Friday's elimination games, and must win five games in two days to win the tournament.
Talihina will play Stigler at 4 p.m. Friday in a winner's-bracket quarterfinal with the victor advancing to Saturday's 10 a.m. winner's-bracket final.
The title game is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, with the if-game at 3:20 p.m.
