Talihina pitcher no-hits Howe in Keota Invitational; Arkoma, Spiro also post victories on Day 1

August 11, 2011

KEOTA — Talihina pitcher Malacha Austin threw a no-hitter, and aided her own cause by hitting one of her team's three home runs, as the Lady Golden Tigers run ruled the Howe Lady Lions 12-0 in a four-inning contest in the opening round of the Keota Invitational Tuesday night.
The Arkoma Lady Mustangs made a successful return to high school softball as they defeated the McCurtain Lady Bulldogs 3-2 to open their season with a victory.
The Spiro Lady Bulldogs got a shutout from pitcher Kaylee Cox as they blanked the Pocola Lady Indians 7-0 in a game called after four innings due to the time limit.
The Cameron Lady Yellowjackets lost by forfeit to the Stigler Lady Panthers due to lack of players. The Lady ’Jackets (0-2) forfeited their way out of the tournament for that reason.
Arkoma will play tournament-host Keota at 4 p.m. this afternoon with the winner meeting Spiro at 5:20 p.m. Friday. That winner will advance to Saturday morning's 10 a.m. winner's-bracket final.
Today's loser's-bracket games will have Pocola meeting the Arkoma-Keota loser at 6:40 p.m., followed by Howe meeting McCurtain, which beat Cameron by forfeit, at 8 p.m. tonight. The winners will advance to Friday's elimination games, and must win five games in two days to win the tournament.
Talihina will play Stigler at 4 p.m. Friday in a winner's-bracket quarterfinal with the victor advancing to Saturday's 10 a.m. winner's-bracket final.
The title game is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, with the if-game at 3:20 p.m.
