Talihina teams open Longhorn Invitational with wins; Golden Tigers, new coach get first victory of season with 11-point win over Marlow Outlaws

LONE GROVE — The Talihina High School basketball teams got the new year off on the right foot at the Longhorn Invitational Tournament at the Gary Scott Center.
The Golden Tigers got their first win of the season, and in the process got their new coach, Darrick Farriell, his first win with his new team, as they handled the Marlow Outlaws 51-40 in the opening round Thursday afternoon.
The Golden Tigers (1-6) will meet the winner of the host Lone Grove Longhorns and the Washington junior varsity in the championship semifinals at 8:30 p.m. tonight. The winner will play for the tournament title at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, while the loser will play for third place at 5:30 p.m.
The Lady Golden Tigers routed the Wilson Lady Eagles 54-7 in the opening round Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Golden Tigers (7-1) will play the winner of Thursday night's Healdton-Lone Grove game at 7 p.m. tonight in the championship semifinals. Tonight's winner will play for the championship at 7 p.m. Saturday, while the loser will play for third place at 4 p.m. Saturday.
