TALIHINA â€” The Talihina High School basketball teams and the Pocola Indians were opening-round winners at the 2012 Choctaw Nation Tournament on Thursday on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium.
The Lady Golden Tigers started Thursday's action with a 65-38 win over the Wister Lady Wildcats, while the Golden Tigers capped the first day's games with a 68-45 victory over the Lone Grove Longhorns.
The Indians handled the Sallisaw Black Diamonds 66-45.
The Wister Wildcats and the Pocola Lady Indians were not as fortunate. A strong second half enabled the Rattan Rams to down the â€™Cats 63-39, while the Lady Rams were too much for the Lady Indians as Rattan defeated Pocola 50-36.
In other opening-round girls games, Lone Grove defeated Sallisaw-Central 43-31, while Antlers got past Sallisaw 50-41.
Sallisaw-Central edged Antlers 58-57 in the other first-round boys contest.
Friday saw consolation and championship semifinals take place. On the girls side, Talihina met Antlers, while Rattan played Lone Grove. The winners will play for the title at 7 tonight, while the losers will play for third place at 4:20 p.m.
Girls consolation semifinals saw Pocola play Sallisaw-Central and Wister meet Sallisaw. The winners will meet for the consolation championship at 1:40 this afternoon, while the losers will meet for seventh place at 11 this morning.
On the boys side, Pocola and Talihina played in one championship semifinal, while Rattan and Sallisaw-Central played in the other one. The winners will play at 8:20 tonight for the championship, while the losers will play for third place at 5:40 this afternoon.
In boys consolation semifinals, Wister played Antlers, while Lone Grove met Sallisaw. The winners will play for the consolation championship at 3 this afternoon, while the losers will play for seventh place at 12:20 this afternoon.
