Talihina welcomes Quinton for A-6 opener, homecoming; state champion 1966 team to be honored Friday night

September 25, 2013

The Talihina Golden Tigers are off to a 3-0 start after last week's 40-19 win over the Sallisaw junior varsity. They have shown they can be an offensive juggernaut in scoring 70 points against Wilburton in the season opener. They have shown they can overcome adversity as they did in a come-from-behind 32-13 victory over Antlers.
“I'm very pleased,” Talihina coach Kelly Gravitt said. “Minus the Week 2 setback in the first half [to Antlers], I'm very pleased. These kids love to play football. Our defense is lining up in the right spots. Our offense is executing and playing fast and physical.”
Now, the real season will begin. The Golden Tigers will welcome the Quinton Savages (2-1) to town for the District A-6 opener at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Doc Robinson Stadium for homecoming.
“This week is homecoming and our first district game, so that always can lead to some distractions,” Gravitt said. “We had a great practice on Monday, and we got all the wrinkles in for this week's game. Tuesday was a hard practice, and it's going to be even harder on Wednesday.”
Not only will this be homecoming, but the 1966 state championship football team will be honored Friday night.
